HEADZIC
UK based Headzic (aka John Shapter) is an experimental ambient musician and composer currently residing between Liverpool and Stoke on Trent. His contemplative and atmospheric work evokes a range of feelings from that of deep peace to the excitement of interstellar journeys. His work has been self-released on Bandcamp, starting with the album `Flow` in 2018 followed by a further 10 albums/EPs.
Originally a clinician in earlier life, John developed an interest in the use of esoteric instruments such as gongs and singing bowls to create profound states of calm and relaxation. With his concurrent practice as a sound artist becoming increasingly about the electronic manipulation of sound he realised that he was falling into a New Age musical genre and coined the description of himself as `the accidental musician`. In 2019, he played two sets at the urban electronic festival Subliminal Impulse in Manchester, UK, as well as the City Arts Festival in Stoke. Between 2018 and 2020 he has been resident DJ and ambient performer at Cultural Squatters and a regular performer at Pilgrims Pitt in Stoke. He also plays `micro-gigs` and holds workshops in wellness centres and yoga clubs. As with many musicians, Covid19 has severely limited the ability to perform. However, he is bouncing back with a recent workshop at King Street studios in Nerwcastle under Lyme and a much larger Drive-In Concert at the prestigious World of Wedgwood near Stoke on trent. He is inspired by the natural world around us and the playfulness of our own imaginations. He lives with his artist wife June and they share a house incorporating their two studios with a white husky called Magic and a cat called Gertie. E: headzic@headzic.com M: 07916913686 |
