I`ve led a full and amazing life and think of myself as an `accidental musician`.
UK based Headzic (aka John Shapter) is an experimental ambient musician and composer living in New Brighton, across the water from Liverpool. His contemplative and atmospheric work evokes a range of feelings from that of deep peace to the excitement of interstellar journeys. His work has been self-released on Bandcamp
Originally a clinician in earlier life, John developed an interest in the use of esoteric instruments such as gongs and singing bowls to create profound states of calm and relaxation. With his concurrent practice as a sound artist becoming increasingly about the electronic manipulation of sound he realised that he was falling into a New Age musical genre and coined the description of himself as `the accidental musician`.
In 2019, he played two sets at the urban electronic festival Subliminal Impulse in Manchester, UK, as well as the City Arts Festival in Stoke. Between 2018 and 2020 he has been resident DJ and ambient performer at Cultural Squatters and a regular performer at Pilgrims Pitt in Stoke. In 2022 he played two sets at the Better World Festival in Staffordshire as well as gigs at Rockpoint Records and The Sea Shanty in New Brighton.
He is inspired by the natural world around us and the playfulness of our own imaginations. He lives with his artist wife June and they share a house incorporating their two studios with a cat called Gertie.
