Textiles, ancient and modern, carry patterns handed down through generations. Wouldn`t it be fascinating if these shapes and colours could be interpreted musically. There is, afterall, an historic tradition of scoring music graphically rather than in the familiar notation of notes used in modern scores.

David Byrne, in his book `How Music Works` mooted this as a possibility especially in ancient cultures or in circumstances when traditional music needs to be recorded through the familial line.
So I have been inspired to be creative in this way with my own interpretation, although based on a number of texts concerning alternative notation from George crumb to John Cage.
